Principal's Welcome

Two years ago, students, staff, parents, and administration came together to set a new vision for Bartlett Middle School.  From this conversation, a new direction was formed.  It was decided upon that every student at Bartlett Middle School would be ensured the education they deserved.
Parents promised to support their children by helping them nightly with their homework and attending our monthly Parent Nights.  Armed with the skills they learned at the Parent Nights, the parents of Bartlett Middle School were able both to support their children academically and support them emotionally.  Parents learned the skills to look up their children’s grades from home and learned what the warning signs of emotional distress or gang involvement.
Teachers promised to focus not so much on what they were teaching, but on what students were actually learning.  This was done through the introduction of Common Formative Assessments (CFA’s) that would measure student progress in focused and specific tasks.  From these CFA’s, students would then be grouped by their performance and then receive either a re-teach of the entire task, a re-teach of specific areas they missed, or an opportunity to extend their learning beyond what was required.
Students promised to work hard when it was time to work and play hard when it was time to play.  With a focused determination to improve themselves, the students of Bartlett Middle School showed they were not only dedicated to improving themselves academically, but also determined to make a difference in their community.  As their classroom learning increased, so did their dedication to their community.  By the end of the school year, students were volunteering throughout the community and reaching new heights of academic excellence.
From this dedication, Bartlett Middle School has seen over a 100 point improvement in their API in the last 3 years. As we look ahead and re-affirm our commitment to student learning during the 2010-2011 school year, it will take a continued effort from students, parents, and staff to continue this great growth--the sky is the limit!
